This donation was used to build Sperry Observatory, which was dedicated on May 21, 1967 in honor of William Miller Sperry, Mrs. Beinecke's father.

Use of Observatory Building and Grounds
The college offers AAI the use of the building and surrounding grounds in exchange for AAI's providing professional skills, staffing the building, and installing the instruments.

Exxon Volunteer Involvement Fund is a community service program sponsored by Exxon to support organizations to which their employees and retirees are affiliated.

These funds purchase equipment used in support of programs for the public such as audio/visual devices, displays and presentation materials, computers, shop tools, and solar observing filters.

Schering-Plough Corporation has a program for all employees called Dollars for Volunteers. It is designed to encourage and support their volunteer efforts. This program benefits many organizations and institutions that depend on the employees to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they live.
